Description

The dataset contains reported user observations of marine mammals in or around Svalbard. The users are collaborating partners from AECO (Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators) and researchers/locals/visitors which makes marine mammals sightings citizen based research. The reports are done in the field using an excel spreadsheet template. The database contains time, location, species and the number of individuals observed. See the attached field list for more information on individual fields. Afterwards, a biologist goes through the list adding quality assurance remarks about the content.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 22,876 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
